Chair Space
While experimenting with an extra styrofoam wig head from Burnout, I discovered that paint thinner rapidly dissolves styrofoam. I wanted to use this to capture the ghost image of an object. I practiced on my styrofoam wig heads, leaving one partially dissolved and trying different types of wire. Finally, I cut and glued several sheets of insulation foam together to recreate the wooden chair I was using as my model. Wrapping the foam chair in baling wire was incredibly tedious, but I wanted the wrap to be as consistent as possible. I then melted one limb of the wrapped chair at a time, replacing each with a small steel dowel for structural support.
